English Language Classes for Children Aged 4 -6 at Lorna Whiston Taman Tun

Why Start Learning English at a Young Age?

This is a frequently asked question by parents with young kids who are planning to send them for some form of English enrichment classes. Children who start learning languages at an early age have a greater capacity to pick up a new language and a natural ability to distinguish the sounds of various languages and adopt the grammar. Children absorb languages like a sponge so it is good to expose them to a second or even third language from a young age.

Whether you are sending your child to a SK (public government school), SJKC (Chinese School), SJKT (Tamil School) or private or International school, starting them young with the English language is useful and they will reap the benefits later in life.

For SK, SJKC/T, your child will be learning more languages when they start Primary 1. Letting them master English first helps to make sure that English is not neglected when they start schooling. With a good foundation in English in place, they will be less confused and can focus on learning Malay, Chinese or Tamil when entering primary school.

On the other hand, those who are sending to private or international schools may want to prepare their children for the English learning environment starting from Year 1.
