Visit the 14th Private & International School Fair in Kuala Lumpur this November!

Can you guess how many international schools there are in Malaysia? The answer is more than 150 schools! The number of international schools in Malaysia continues to grow to meet the demand from local and expatriate parents alike. Many parents today are considering an international school education for their children because it offers English as the medium of instruction, globally recognized qualifications, high-quality facilities and integration of technology in lessons, among others.

Parents based in the Klang Valley alone have over 80 international schools to choose from. Each school is unique in terms of location, curricula offered, fees, facilities, class size, learning environment and more. An international school education is more viable than ever before due to its availability and affordability as many schools charge competitive fees. However, the search for the right school can be overwhelming for parents who are new to the international school scene. Choosing a suitable school is a time-consuming process involving research, financial planning and school visits.

Organised by Mint Communications, the Private & International School Fairs aim to help parents with the search for schools by connecting them with leading international schools in Malaysia under one roof. Malaysia School Days and Holidays Calendar 2020

The Official "Takwim Persekolahan 2020" is out! Every year without fail, the  most anticipated and long awaited document as well as frequently asked question in our Facebook group is regarding school holidays. This year is no different.

When is the first day of school 2020?

When is the Chinese New Year holiday?

When is the school term holidays?

This is because parents plan way ahead for their vacation to save on costs. It is much cheaper to book flight tickets etc in advance.

Note that the School Calendar is normally released in two parts. Below is the first part.

Quick Summary of the School Days and Holidays Calendar 2020

First day of school for 2020 is 1st January 2020 (Wednesday) for Kumpulan A schools and 2nd January 2020 (Thursday) for Kumpulan B Schools.

Kids go back to school for 2 days and then  break for the weekend. That's nice because it gives them time to slowly get into or back into the routine of school.

Kumpulan A schools are schools which observe Friday and Saturday as the weekend. They are states of Johor, Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu.

Kumpulan B schools
are schools in Perlis, Pulau Pinang, Perak, Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka, Pahang, Sabah, Sarawak, Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur, Labuan and Putrajaya

The term holidays are the same as before with a mid year break of 2 weeks in May/June 2020 and two shorter semester breaks  of approximately 1 week each in March 2020 and July 2020.

Below is the School Calendar 2020 from the Ministry of Education. You can download the "Takwim Persekolahan 2020" from here.

Here is the second part which is the Cuti Perayaan 2020 or Festive Holidays 2020. This is separate from the term holidays and are holidays during the major Festivals periods in Malaysia. You need to view both together for all the school holidays in Malaysia for 2020.

To answer the other frequently asked questions "When is the Chinese New Year Holidays?" which happens to be the first festive holiday, you can view the listing and summary below.

Summary of the first festive holiday in 2020 ie Chinese New Year school holidays

22 - 26 Jan 2020 (Kumpulan A) - Johor, Kedah, Kelantan, Terengganu
23 - 27 Jan 2020 (Kumpulan B) - All other states including the Federal Territories

When Is Deepavali School Holidays 2019

With the PT3 exams and most year-end exams either ongoing or ending, we now look forward to the Deepavali Festive Holidays 2019.

This year Deepavali falls on 27 October 2019, which is a Sunday. Monday, 28 October 2019 will be the replacement public holiday.

Kumpulan A schools which observe a Friday and Saturday weekend have the following extra days off school: 28 Oct (Mon) and 29 Oct (Tue).

Therefore Kumpulan A schools ie schools in Johor, Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu will be off from 25 Oct (Fri) until 29 Oct (Tue) 2019

Kumpulan B schools which observe Saturday and Sunday as weekend will have the following extra days off school: 25 Oct (Fri) and 29 Oct (Tue) with the exception of Sarawak which lists 28 Oct (Mon) as another off day.

Therefore Kumpulan B schools ie schools in Perlis, Pulau Pinang, Perak, Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka, Pahang, Sabah, Sarawak, Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur, Labuan and Putrajaya will also be off from 25 Oct (Fri) until 29 Oct (Tue) 2019

Year End school holidays start next month from 22 or 23 November 2019 depending on which state you are from.

It is nice to note that the new arrangement of having festive holidays for all festivals now include a couple of days off for Deepavali too instead of just one day as it was previously.

To all readers who celebrate Deepavali, here's wishing that you have a good time preparing for the festival.
