There are many other creative story writing sites for older kids. The ones here are for younger kids. All they have to do is fill in the blanks with a word when prompted such as a noun, adjective, name etc and then click create and see their story unfold. It is fun and easy.
I think what most kids would do is fill in the blanks with ridiculous ideas and words just to see what silly story they can come up with but that's fine too. That is all part of the fun!
Here are 10 fill in the blank story makers where all kids have to do is to fill in the blank with words when prompted and then with one click, they can see their story unfold. It will help to improve their vocabulary and increase their interest in stories and reading.
These story makers will help your child create adventure stories, fairy stories, science fiction stories, sports stories, space stories. Some of them are text while others are a game with pictures, sounds and backgrounds you can pick.
1. Story Maker from British Council is excellent for this. Kids can make a fairy story, a horror story or a science fiction story with the story maker.

6. From Space Place, you can write your own zany space story. This one has better prompts and won't allow you to enter if you have the adjective or noun etc. wrong. Not only will you have the fun to become the author of your very own adventure story, you will learn a thing or two about meteorites, black holes and more.
7. In Vocabulary.co you will find story blanks,a making stories game that allows you to create a story by filling in the blanks. There are plenty of other language and word games there too.
8. Pinky Dinky Doo helps the young child to pick on a picture to add it to their story and the read aloud button helps reinforce learning. The story comes with audio and visuals making it more interesting for the very young child.
9 Carnegie Library gives you items, backgrounds and prompts in the forms of questions to help you along. This is slightly more than just fill in the blanks as kids will have to type out the story based on what they select.
10 Smokey Bear gives you fill in the blank prompts for your child to create a forest story.
Getting your child to go through these will not only be fun, it might just create a new interest in him or her in reading or writing. Have fun!

Tips for kids doing cross stitch
Start slow then build up to more complicated projects
I learned this mistake from my kids. My boy had come home with his own cross stitch project from preschool. It was made from one of those all-in-one cross stitch kit. My girl wanted one too but I didn't have a cross stitch kit. I took out a flower design from one of my cross stitch books which I thought looked rather easy. It was not!
My girl could not follow the instructions. She didn't know which way to sew and which way to cross. In the end, she got frustrated. The project also took too long. It is still sitting somewhere in our craft cupboard uncompleted.
It was a bunch of flowers with shading. I learned that for kids cross stitch projects you must start slowly, with basic stitches only, no shading or other stitches, just straightforward colors, not too many colors, and the pattern must be big and easy to follow.
Kids Counted Cross Stitch must be small enough to be completed in a few short sittings so that kids don't feel frustrated. If they can complete it within a few sittings, they will feel pride in their work and want to do more. Then, you can move on to more complicated cross stitch projects for kids.
In the picture, you will see a cross stitch bookmark that was done by my son at 7 years old. Kids can make cross stitch bookmarks, cross stitch magnets, cross stitch cards, little cross stitch pictures or have their cross stitch sewn onto their own clothing to make it more fun!
Fine Motor Skills
Young kids get a lot of practice with their fine motor skills when doing cross stitch. They also learn patience and it improves their attention span.

I love a freebie, don't you? I especially love it when the freebie is a book. Books may be cheap when bought one at a time but you don't usually buy books one at a time especially if you have little bookworms at home who devour books. So, I am especially delighted whenever I can find free books for kids, even more so when the free books are in digital form (so they don't take up shelf space) and tablet friendly.

Printables are fun especially printables that you can customize. Today, I'd like to share with you a wonderful site called DLTK with focus on their free calendars that you can customize. DLTK stands for the initials of the owner and her family. I especially love DLTK's free printables because they can be customized. For example, you can customize the printable calendar up to year 2022! The calendar is also available in several languages. Here is the link to DLTK's Free Printable Custom Calendars.
Besides the year and language, you can customize your calendar with a clip art or cartoon of your choice. The graphics to go with your calendar is divided into several categories and themes including...
Animals
Holidays and Seasons
Cartoon Characters
Fantasy, Music, Princesses and so much more!
The holiday and seasons ones include Valentine's, Christmas, Halloween, Easter etc. Below are a few examples of the Holiday Calendars which I just customized from DLTK. Customization is very easy. Even your child can do it themselves.
To customize, you first have to select a monthly or yearly calendar. Then you choose the year and images you want for your calendar and pick black and white or color image. Choose the black and white if you want your child to color it themselves. You get to preview the image you have chosen. Then you click on "Create Calendar" and you can print it out immediately. Lovely!
Below are the sample holiday printable kids calendars for 2014 and 2015 which I created from the site. I made a Santa Printable Calendar For 2014. You can choose other graphics including Mrs Claus, Christmas tree, gingerbread man or elves. I also did a monthly Valentine's Day Calendar for 2015. I selected roses from a list of animals and flowers with hearts. Finally, I created a 2015 Calendar for kids using the Nursery Rhyme theme which was really unique.
I like the holiday and seasons themes for calendars because they help children learn to appreciate, countdown and feel the excitement for each holiday. I also like the nursery rhyme theme calendars there.
Please note that you may not print the calendars from this site. They are for illustration only. Please go to DLTK Free Printable Custom Calendars to customize and print your own calendar. You must also abide by their terms of service when you use their calendars. Do stop by there to read the terms too. While you are there, you can browse around for other printables like cards, bookmarks and more. I love that they can be customized before printing. I hope you enjoy the site as much as I do.

Some time ago, my son had to do a school project on animals. He needed some animal facts printables.

Where To Find Articles About Animals? Here Are 5 Excellent Resources For Animal Fact Sheets
International Fund For Animal Welfare is committed towards saving and rescuing animals all over the world, not only animal populations but including individual animals too. I especially love their free e-magazine called World of Animals. Issues of World of Animals can be read online like any e-book and can also be downloaded for free. You can find the World of Animals magazine from IFAW at the Resource Center. Copies of these magazine about how animals are saved can also be downloaded in pdf format. This is an excellent resource for teaching kids to love animals. At the same time, you can also search the resource center for "Animal Fact Sheets". This will give you some printable fact sheets on mostly endangered animals.
Perth Zoo offers free animal facts printables on their website. The animal fact sheets in pdf format includes a fast facts section, a picture of the animal, a map, the description, diet, "in the wild", threats and a "Do You Know" section. Everything is in one page. Excellent for learners. The page is beautiful and perfect for kids learning about animals.
The World Animal Foundation or WAF organizes its printable Animal Fact Sheets on two pages in long paragraph format. These would be great for older students or kids as you get a lot of facts. Younger kids may prefer the one page printable type rather than one with long paragraphs to read. However, if you are reading with your child, then that is not a problem. All of the animal facts printables here are in pdf format.
The Canadian Geographic offers free printable animal fact sheets in pdf format as well. The fact sheets are organized in one page and classified under the following headings; Fast Facts, Physiology, Habitat/Behaviour and Range. It also includes a picture of the animal.
You also have an option to download the full collection of animal facts in print quality pdf files. The file size is 4.6 MB.
National Geographic Kids have lots of animal facts but not all of them are in printable pdf format. That is not an issue though. You can always do a printscreen. Kids from 8-12 can go to the section on Creature Features to find facts about animals which includes photos, videos and even audio of the sound the animal makes.
Older children from ages 10 and above can go straight on to this page on Animal Facts to find the numerous animals being featured. When it comes to selection of animals to read up on, you just can't beat National Geographic Kids.
If you are looking for facts about animals or articles about animals, I am sure you will find them on one of these sites. Together they provide a very comprehensive and excellent resource for anyone who wants to read up more about animals.
Since I am in the mood for creating free printable stuff for my blog, I decided to move it along and make a few free printable 2015 calendar for kids, both boys and girls.
They are full year 2015 calendar. I have not included any holidays in it as my blog readers come from all over the world, mainly the US but also India, Russia, Australia, France, Philippines, United Kingdom, Germany, China, Singapore, Malaysia and more. So after thinking about it, I decided not to include any holidays so that everyone can use the free 2015 Kids Calendar.
Teaching kids how to use a calendar is a good way to teach them about the passage of time. It will help to teach younger kids about the days of the week. For older kids, it will help teach them to be more organized as you circle or tick off important dates like school trips, project due dates etc.
I created the 2015 Calendars in 3 designs. The first one is a bright yellow calendar so that it is nice and cheery for kids rooms. The top shows clip arts of children working and playing, something that every child should be doing all year round. Work hard and play hard. The clip arts are from Microsoft Publisher 2010.
Enjoy! If you like this page, please pin it. Thank you.
Free Printable 2015 Calendar For Kids

Here is another kids timetable for the year 2015 which I created. It is in purple with a picture of a child standing on a pile of books. There are pencils beside the word 2015. Free Kids Calendar For 2015
Purple
Since I did one for the boys, I decided to take it one step further and make a free printable 2015 calendar for girls, the princesses in your life. So here's one, in sweet pink and pastel yellow with a crown fit for a princess and a princess on the calendar in my attempt to create a princess theme Calendar for girls.
I've always enjoyed making cards, posters and calendars using all kinds of computer software and apps. However, it has never occurred to me to make a free printable to give away on my blog before. I guess there is always a first time for everything. I decided to make a free printable calendar for kids. Since it is coming to the last quarter of the year, it would not be practical to make a yearly calendar. A monthly calendar would be more appropriate. Since it is the end of September, I decided to make a free printable calendar for kids for the month of October 2014 incorporating a Halloween Design for kids to giveaway on my blog.
I used Microsoft Publisher to create this calendar. The Halloween Witch Cartoon on the October 2014 Calendar was hand drawn or rather finger drawn by me using my iPad and a drawing app. The iPad is a fantastic drawing tool.
Anyway, here it is. This is my very first free printable that I am giving away on my blog. It only took me minutes to do since I have got the graphics from the Halloween Greeting Card which I did for my blog last year. This is so much fun. I will definitely think of offering more free printables in the future. I hope you enjoy this one.

Happy Mid Autumn Festival. The mooncake festival falls on the 15th day of the 8th month of the Chinese lunar calendar. That means in 2014, the mooncake festival or Mid Autumn Festival is on 8th September, 2014. Too bad this year, my girl will be having school examinations the very next year, so we won't be staying up playing with lanterns till late in the night.
Anyway, for those of you with younger kids, here are some excellent resources for some fun filled Moon Festival activities for children.
1. From British Council Schools Online check out the Chinese Mid Autumn Festival Resources and Education Pack. I particularly like the Design and Make A Mooncake activity for kids who like baking and the free Mooncake Box Template for kids who like designing.
2. From Childbook.com, check out the Chinese Moon Festival coloring pages. Plenty of cute designs to choose from here including mooncakes and teapot, family enjoying mooncakes together and Hou Yi & Chang Er and the Jade Rabbit. When you are on this link, do note that the Mid Autumn Festival Coloring pages is not the only activity you can find. Make sure you check out the Chinese Moon Festival Powerpoint Slideshow For Teachers. You can find the link to that just right after the Moon Festival coloring images. I recommend that you download it and watch it together with your child. The Mid Autumn Festival story featured in the slideshow utilizes the coloring images. After you watch the slides and learn more about Mid Autumn Festival, your child can color the Chinese Moon Festival graphics she sees in the slideshow.
That's it. I'm just going to review two sites this year because I think they are incredible and worth visiting. You may also like to check out : Teaching Kids About The Mid Autumn Festival.
