What is Therapeutic Art?
To answer that, let us look at some charts and questions.
Below is a chart for a day in the life of a Malaysian preschooler and primary school student during a weekday.
After school, most children are sent straight to a daycare center during the weekday while waiting for their parents to return home from work. In the chart, we can see that children spend 11 hours away from their parents.
Question 1:
Do children acquire enough ability to cope in their daily life during these 11 hours without parents when they face stress in learning, challenges in their social life or when they are bullied?
The government educational blueprint request students to equip themselves with the specific skills and attributes as shown below (Preliminary Report Malaysia Education Blueprint 2013-2025 Pg 30-Pg 31).
The school focuses on written examinations to enhance students’ knowledge, thinking skills and bilingual proficiency (Preliminary Report Malaysia Education Blueprint 2013-2025 Pg 103).
How do children fulfill leadership skills, ethics and spiritual aspects to prepare them to rise to the challenges they will inevitably face in adult life? Increasingly being able to lead and work effectively with others is critical in our interconnected world.
